Wandering pig in Vernon may have a new home

VERNON, CT (WFSB) -

A pig that has been staying at the local animal shelter after being found wandering on Route 81 in Vernon on Oct. 1 may have a new home.

A Bolton family is interested in adopting her as a pet, according to animal control officers.

The pig, which is suffering from a cold right now, is expected to be taken by the family Wednesday or Thursday of this week. Transportation arrangements are still pending at this time.

The pig has been eating specialized food, which animal control officers had to buy, and has gained a little weight since she was found. The cost of keeping the pig is too much, police officials said.

Vernon police said they were unsure if the pig was dropped off there Oct. 1, or if it wandered away from its home and ended up there.

Vernon residents cannot adopt the pig because pigs cannot be kept in town.
