EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

The East Hartford Police Department arrested a Manchester man in connection with a triple homicide of his mother and two other tenants of a residence on Naomi Drive in November 2010.

Brett D. Bednarz, 48, of Rachel Road was charged with three counts of murder, first-degree burglary, home invasion, criminal violation of a protective order and capital felony murder.

On Nov. 10, the bodies of two women and one man were found inside the home during a welfare check, police said. All three died of severe head injuries, according to the medical examiner's office.

"It was a very gruesome scene and that's why gathering of evidence was made more difficult in scene like that," said Police Lt. Ricardo Soto.

East Hartford police said officers responded to the home after being notified by a family member of the residents that they hadn't been heard from in some time. The victims were later identified as Beverly Therrien, Michael Ramsey and Pamela Johns.

Therrien is Bednarz's mother, according to police. Ramsey and Johns were tenants in the home.

Police officials said Bednarz, who was staying with his sister, was unaware that he was going to be arrested Monday morning. Police added that they always suspected Bednarz in the crime.

"At the scene there was a lot of evidence that we had to gather," Soto said. "We had to submit to different sources and had to wait for that evidence to come back."

Neighbors told Eyewitness News that they are relived Bednarz is under arrest and believe Therrien was so scared of her son that she brought in Ramsey and Johns.

The courts ordered Bednarz to stay away from his mother after he was arrested for pushing her with a broomstick. From February 2010 until the murder in November, the police were called to the house nine times.

Bednarz is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Manchester on Tuesday morning and is currently being held on $3 million bond.

Police said Bednarz's sister Candace has not cooperated with the investigation. However, police would not say if she is facing any charges or any more arrests are expected.
