HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -
A police officer with the Hartford Police Department was arrested Thursday in connection with a fatal motor vehicle accident in July.
Taikwon Dudley was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, traveling too fast for conditions and failure to obey a traffic signal. He was released on a written promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Hartford on Oct. 25.
Dudley was involved in crash on Albany Avenue near Woodland Street on July 13 where his vehicle collided with one being driven by Anthony Mansfield. During the crash, Mansfield was critically injured and he would die a week later.
Police have not said if the car was being chased or what led up to the accident at this time.
"I continue to express my condolences to the Mansfield family in this difficult time," said Hartford Police Chief James C. Rovella. "I thank them for their patience in allowing us to complete a complex investigation as thoroughly and completely as possible."
Hartford Police Accident Reconstruction Unit along with the internal affairs division worked with the Connecticut State Police and New Britain State's Attorney's Office on the investigation.
