Police search for answers after man dies mysteriously in West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

A West Haven mother pleads with the public for help in discovering what happened to her son.

Brandon Jackson collapsed on Highland Avenue about one week ago, but it is unclear if he was hit by car or just died suddenly.

"I'm not ever going to be the same," said mother Denise Jackson. "I need to know what happened to my son."

On Monday night, police returned to the spot where he died and setup a mobile command center as they tried to gather clues about his death. The officers asked drivers if they traveled in the area often and if they saw anything that evening.

A memorial has been established with candles and flowers just two blocks away from where Denise Jackson lives.

"He wasn't a partier. He was a very loner kid. He hung with his cousins and his family and friends and he hung with his mom. Ok. I am lost," said Denise Jackson. "Somebody knows something about my child. I just want whoever knows anything, I don't care how little is to please come forward."

Denise Jackson does not believe her son collapsed suddenly because her son had gotten a clean bill of health from a doctor earlier that day. Brandon Jackson got a physical to attend Gateway Community College.

A letter recently came in the mail, which showed that Brandon Jackson had been approved for financial aid. He was struggling finding a new job, his mother said.

"I go home everyday into my home where me and my son lived and I expect to be there," said Denise Jackson. "So it's an adjustment and I know I'm never going to be the same."

Officers also handed out pamphlets throughout the neighborhood.
