BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -
Bristol residents believe that Blakeslee Street is dangerous and has been the location of several crashes in recent weeks. And now, they are asking for the city's help.
The street has a difficult curve along with a large hill leading into it from one direction, which could pose a challenge for drivers.
"Within the last five or six weeks, I have had three accidents in which the police have been called," said Beryl Harrigan of Bristol. "The cars have been towed."
During the last crash, a car slammed into a telephone pole at the edge of Harrigan's driveway and caused it to collapse. The crash caused Harrigan to call city hall.
"It's been going on for a long time, but this last one was the last straw," said Felicia Moliengo of Bristol. "Somebody, somebody's gonna die."
Several decades ago, a young child was struck by a car and killed, according to police.
"They are I think trying to do something," said Harrigan, who has lived on Blakeslee Street for more than 60 years. "I don't know what they'll do."
Bristol police have increased speeding patrols in the area and the city is conducting a traffic study on Blakeslee Street.
The city's Department of Public Works is researching the road to determine if there is a way to prevent hydroplaning and icing on the roadway.
