MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -
A tanning salon was entrenched in downtown Middletown for years until it disappeared without a trace recently. The business has left customers without money for services they paid for.
Customers of Sol Tanning Center have noticed equipment being removed from the building and they want to know why the money for services has not been returned.
"Halloween is around the corner and I'm being Snooki for Halloween, so you need to be tan," said Heather O'Brien, who was a customer of Sol Tanning Center.
O'Brien bought a monthly membership to the Main Street tanning salon on Oct. 13.
"I had tanned two times after that and when I came back the third time, it was closed," she said. "So I wasn't sure if they were on vacation or something."
Days later, the tanning center was still closed.
"I ran into a worker who was leaving Sol and they had said that it was under construction and that it would be opening the following day," O'Brien said. "So when I came back the following day, it was closed again. So at this point, I was pretty frustrated."
O'Brien called Eyewitness News and WFSB contacted others who said the business closed without even leaving a sign on the door.
"He didn't let us know nothing," said Carlene Sheltra, who visited five times a week and had several weeks left on her monthly package. "He just closed up the doors and he was gone."
George Greene has owned Sol Tanning Center since 2006 and on Tuesday, he told Eyewitness News, "the customers who paid for monthly services will get their money back.
"I was shut down abruptly due to the landlord," he said.
If you were a customer of Sol Tanning Center, Tropical Sun in Middletown is offering to pick up the slack, offering a $20 discount off all their services.
