The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and Metropolitan District has closed some of its facilities and state parks starting Monday until further notice.
At 11 a.m. on Sunday, a viewer told Eyewitness News that Hammonasset state park
was closed and the access road to Meigs Point was covered with water.
People were asked to leave the park by officials, the viewer stated.
"We regret any inconvenience caused by the closing of the parks but our first priority is to protect the safety of the public," DEEP Commissioner Daniel C. Esty said. "Once the storm passes we will assess and address any impacts to our parks and determine when they can be reopened."
The following MDC places will be closed until further notice:
Boat launch at Goodwin Dam-West Branch Reservoir in Hartland
Lake McDonough Recreation Area in Barkhamsted
West Hartford Reservoir in West Hartford
Reservoir #6 in Bloomfield will be closed, until further notice, effective Monday, Oct. 29 due to the approaching storm.
"While the MDC regrets any inconvenience, this action is necessary to
ensure the safety and security of all of our recreational users," said
Kerry E. Martin, who is the Assistant to the CEO at MDC. "The MDC will
continue to monitor weather conditions and reopen the facilities as
Boat docks and portable toilets at state boat launches throughout the state will removed from the water as a safety precaution.
Mt. Misery Campground at Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown will be open Sunday until noon. It is the only state park campground still open at this time of year.
