The Old Saybrook Office of Emergency Management said residents in several neighborhoods are "strongly recommended" to leave their homes if and when they're asked to.
Notices were sent to Old Saybrook residents that could be endangered by floodwaters as Hurricane Sandy gets closer to Connecticut.
That notice, emergency officials said, will be the only notification to evacuate.
Emergency management officials said the first option is to seek shelter north of Interstate 95 with family and or friends or in a hotel.
The second option would be to seek shelter at the Town Evacuation Center.
In addition, officials said, Old Saybrook Public Schools will be closed.
The Town Evacuation Center is located at Old Saybrook Senior High School located at 1111 Boston post Rd., and will be open at 5 p.m. Sunday.
