Tree crashes into Westhampton home

WESTHAMPTON, MA (WSHM) -

While the Massimino family expected wind and rain Monday, they never expected a tree to come crashing into their home.

"I was downstairs working on my table saw with my headphones on when all of the sudden the house shook," said Tom Massimino.

A tree in his front yard snapped and crashed through the roof of his Westhampton home of 24 years. Massimino is no stranger to yard work, having cleared dozens of trees from his property over the years.

"I've taken about 40-45 trees down off the property. I should have taken down another seven," said Massimino.

As he took those trees down over the years, having one wind up in his home was just a fantasy.

"You always think about it, but never really believe it's going to happen, until it does," said Massimino.

Massimino can laugh about the situation since neither he nor his wife were hurt in the incident physically. They do have other things on their mind though.

"We bought another house. We're selling this one. This is the last thing I needed. I just had a roof put on here and the guy just finished on Friday," said Massimino.

Massimino plans to cover his roof with a tarp until he can get it fixed.
