Many restaurants in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy have had their power restored, however many still need to pass state mandated inspections from the Connecticut Health Department.
Restaurants in Milford have spent all week cleaning up and have had to deal with sand, water and mud.
"The city is taking the mud off the street but I've gotta get it into the street," said Kris Willis of Milford. "So I'm trying to shovel it down the street so they'll take some of it away."
Nicci Tripp is the chef manager at The Beach House and said she has been inundated with calls from people asking when the restaurant will reopen. The Beach House did lose power during the hurricane.
"All my meats, all my produce, all my dairy, every single thing, because when the power goes out you have to lose everything," Tripp said.
The Beach House is waiting for deliveries to restock its shelves, however it still needs to be inspected by the health department.
"People who are without electricity now are having difficulties getting prepared foods, so the quicker we can get the restaurants online the better off we'll all be," said Milford Health Director Dr. A. Dennis McBride.
Help has been called in to get more inspections done faster, McBride said. Inspectors have been called in from neighboring towns such as Meriden, Wallingford and West Haven.
The key is to make sure all the food has been thrown that was at the restaurant when the storm hit.
Tripp said her restaurant has lost tens of thousands of dollars and is hoping insurance will cover most of the cost. However, she does expect to pay some out-of-pocket costs.
In southeastern Connecticut, Mystic Restaurant Week is expected to start Saturday on time and run until Nov. 10. The price is $12 for lunch and $20.12 for dinner.
