Police in Cromwell are investigating an armed robbery at gas station in town Monday afternoon.
According to police, a Hispanic man entered the Sunoco gas station on West Street just after 12:30 p.m. He demanded the clerk give him the money in the register while holding a small black handgun, according to police.
After the clerk emptied the register, the man fled with an undisclosed amount of money on foot and witnesses told police the suspect could have gotten into a parked car at neighboring business. The vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed, witnesses told police.
The car is believed to be an older model silver or gray Nissan Maxima or Altima.
A search of the area with a K-9 was unsuccessful, police said.
The man was described as 5'6" and weighing 150 pounds with black hair. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt tightly drawn over his face.
Anyone with any information about the robbery is asked to call the Cromwell Police Department at 860-635-2256.
