A home in Meriden was heavily damaged by fire and displaced six residents Wednesday afternoon.
According to witnesses, a daughter and two friends were alone in a single-family house on Sylvester Street at 12:18 p.m. when the fire started.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw flames coming from corner of the house, which extended to the second floor. The fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes.
The second floor in the rear of the home was heavily damaged.
No occupants or firefighters were injured during the fire.
The American Red Cross is helping the six people who have been displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Meriden Fire Marshal's Office.
The South Meriden, Wallingford, and Berlin fire departments provided mutual aid.
