HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Hartford police said they arrested seven women and charged them each with prostitution after a bust in the city's South End on Wednesday.

Police Chief James Rovella said the operation was conducted by the police department's Vice and Narcotics Division that was targeting prostitution.

"The detail, conducted on (Wednesday) in the vicinities of Mountford Street, Wethersfield Avenue, Main Street at South Green, Morris Street, and Dean Street, was in response to numerous citizen complaints of street level prostitution in these areas," Rovella said. "As street level prostitution negatively impacts the quality of life for our residents where it occurs, the public can be assured the department will continue enforcement efforts in order to deter such activity."

The women were each charged with prostitution and had bonds set at $10,000.
