Baby held at gunpoint during home invasion

Two people have been arrested after being accused in a home invasion in Stamford in which a baby was held at gunpoint.

Stamford police said just before 7 p.m. Friday they received a call about three armed men that had just committed a home invasion at an apartment on Hope Street.

When police arrived it was discovered that the three men, armed with guns, lured the resident of the apartment outside and then assaulted him.

He was then led upstairs into his apartment and inside was the man's wife, 4-month-old daughter and two friends.

The three suspected men fanned out through the apartment and put everyone on the ground by gunpoint.

At that point, police said, one of the men picked up the 4-month-old and held the gun to her head and threatened to kill her if they didn't turn over money.

The men searched their apartment then fled with money and jewelry.

A short time later, an underage teenager was determined to be one of the suspects and he was arrested a short distance away.

More leads were then developed and determined that a man, identified as Mikel Gjuraj, 22, and a Hispanic man was involved.

On Saturday, an arrest warrant was issued for Gjuraj and a search warrant for his apartment on Fox Glen Drive was also issued.

Stamford police showed Gjuraj had a valid pistol permit and he bought three handguns just five hours prior to the home invasion.

Surveillance was conducted at his home and he was arrested a short time later, but the handguns were nowhere to be found.

Stamford police said they then went to a home on Elm Tree Place and discovered four handguns in the trunk of a vehicle.

The weapons were confiscated and police said they believe they were used in the crime.

Gjuraj and a juvenile were both charged with home invasion, unlawful restraint, robbery, assault, risk of injury to a minor and conspiracy.

The juvenile was sent to Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center and Gjuraj was held in jail on $750,000 bond.

The investigation is continuing, police said, and they are still looking for the third person involved in the crime.

Anyone with information about the home invasion is asked to call police.
