"John Doe's" identity could lead FBI to a sex predator
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
An unidentified man seen in a photograph that surfaced on the internet may put the FBI on the trail of suspected sexual predator.
The person of interest first caught the FBI's attention after a series of online photographs appeared depicting a girl, about 10 years old, posing naked in sexually-explicit positions, said Manuel Johnson, an FBI special agent and spokesperson.
"We're seeking the public's assistance to identify the individual depicted in the photograph," said Johnson.
The "John Doe" can be seen witnessing the child's behavior from a bed nearby, Johnson said. The images have been circulated and/or traded as child pornography among various illegal internet forums, he said. Johnson said the pictures appear to be from about 2005, but the FBI was finally able to piece together they are all from the same scene.
"It's really connecting the dots. We were able to find different images from various FBI investigations across the country," explained Johnson
The man appears to be between the ages of 55 to 65. He has brown eyes, gray hair and a full beard and mustache.
The FBI enhanced the background of one of the photographs and identified what appears to be a child's drinking cup from the QuikTrip chain of gas stations.
The image led investigators to believe that the photographs were likely taken prior to November of 2005, in one of the following 13 U.S. cities where QuikTrip stores are located: Atlanta; Charlotte, NC; Dallas; Des Moines, IA; Omaha, NEB; Greenville/Spartanburg, SC; Kansas City, MO; Springfield, MO; Wichita, KS; Phoenix; Tucson, AZ; St. Louis, and Tulsa, OK.
A baseball cap displaying what could be the logo of a local sports team, as well as a partial image of what appears to be a telephone book, are also clues which may provide valuable information regarding the location of this endangered child, Turgil said in a statement.
People with information about the man are asked to contact their local FBI office or call the FBI's toll-free tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
