PRESCOTT, AZ (AP) -
Three people are in custody in connection with two separate methamphetamine cases in Yavapai County.
The most recent arrests occurred on Friday in the parking lot of a steakhouse in Black Canyon City, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said.
A YCSO K-9 deputy attempted to stop a vehicle without a plate heading north on Interstate-17 near milepost 244.
James Ryan, 39, the driver, and his passenger, 35-year-old Melissa Truax, both of Phoenix, were arrested on numerous drug charges. During a weapons check, the deputy discovered Ryan was carrying several hundred dollars.
While speaking with Truax, who was still seated in the vehicle, the deputy spotted a clear plastic baggie containing white residue on the floorboard, PCSO said. The deputy deployed his K-9 for an exterior sniff of the vehicle and his dog alerted on the passenger side.
Deputies searched the vehicle and found meth on the floorboard and a package of unopened clear plastic baggies commonly used in drug sales, PCSO said. Inside the trunk, deputies found six ounces of meth in multiple baggies along with scales and a syringe. The meth had an estimated street value of $7,500.
Ryan and Truax were arrested on charges of for possession of dangerous drugs, possession of dangerous drugs for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia and transportation of dangerous drugs for sale.
Partner's Against Narcotics Trafficking Detectives have been busy in an effort to stem the flow of drugs into Yavapai County. This media release describes two incidents documenting their successful work.
In a separate case earlier this month, detectives with Partner's Against Narcotics Trafficking said they observed 39-year-old Jeffrey Carter, of Mesa, selling 1 ounce of meth at a Black Canyon City location on Coldwater Canyon Road.
On Nov. 7, detectives said they learned Carter would be delivering three ounces of meth to the same location. When Carter arrived on his motorcycle at around 8:30 p.m., detectives were there with a search warrant for likely vehicles, including his motorcycle.
Although it appeared Carter was intending to flee as uniformed deputies approached, he was quickly detained and held for detectives, PCSO said. Carter had thrown a black bag on the ground as deputies approached and a search of the bag revealed three ounces of meth with an approximate street value of $3,600.
Carter was arrested and booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges of possessing a dangerous drug for sale, two counts of transportation of dangerous drugs and two counts of using an electronic device in a drug transaction. He remains in-custody on a $75,000 bond.
