Off duty fire lieutenant helps save Springfield family

Posted: Updated:

A Springfield family is safe Thursday night thanks to the help of an off-duty fire lieutenant.

Fire officials tell CBS 3 that Lt. Angel Caquais was driving by a Roosevelt Avenue home Thursday morning when he noticed smoke.

Caquais went inside to investigate and found someone trying to put it out, but he told them it was getting out of control and called the fire department.

Officials say the fire started in the attic. No one was injured.

There is about $12,000 to $15,000 in damage.

The fire remains under investigation.
