A New Haven man was arrested after an argument between a father and son led to shots being fired in the backyard of the family's home on Thanksgiving.
According to police, a father woke around 3:15 a.m. to hear his two sons arguing in the kitchen. The father told his sons to be quiet and that is when 27-year-old Chad Mendes began arguing with his father.
After noticing Mendes had a gun, his father asked him to leave. Mendes agreed to leave, but not until he fired three shots in the backyard of the home.
Officers spotted Mendes walking with his pit bull on Elsworth Avenue and spotted him. He denied firing a gun at the home.
However, police recovered three 9 mm shell casings and arrested Mendes. No gun was recovered by police.
He was charged with the unlawful discharge of a firearm, second-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace.
