About a third of the hockey season will be canceled thanks to the lockout between the players and the NHL, which means fewer coyotes games and fewer fans flowing into Westgate.
Business owners are frustrated, and fans are frustrated, saying what the new Tanger outlets bring may not cover what they'll lose in this lockout.
Aaron Hernandez is the manager of McFadden's Saloon in Westgate. He now fears less people will be coming through their doors.
"I can tell a lot of fans are angry, we want the NHL back," he said.
The season's been canceled through mid-December, which amounts to more than a dozen Coyotes games.
"As far as profit-wise, anywhere between $18,000 to $20,000 a game and they have 2 to 3 games a week," Hernandez said of the money they'd lose out on.
"It's horrible for season ticket owners, it's horrible for people that come to this area," said Allyse Knowlton, who also works here at McFadden's. She said she sees her tips go down the drain if the coyotes don't play.
"When we don't have hockey here we're missing on, what, three games a week usually? Three games, one week, two games another week, so, you do the math," she said.
Fans are also crying foul. Not only do they lose out on seeing their team play, but they know their cash-strapped city is losing out even more.
"I think it hurts a lot for the city of Glendale that they're not playing," said fan Nick Chavez.
The glimmer of hope? Hernandez said with Tanger outlet mall opening, it may make for an easier holiday season now that the coyotes are off the ice.
"It brings us a little more business, especially on Black Friday and opening right before Christmas, so we're looking forward to that, hoping to capitalize on that," he said.
The NHL also canceled the all-star game in Columbus, Ohio in January. They claim they'll be resuming talks with the player's union to try and get the teams back in the arena.
