A married couple was shot at their home in Wilton early Monday morning.
Police were called to the home on Gruman Avenue around 8 a.m. and upon arrival, officers found Charles Garcia, 47, and Michelle Garcia, 39, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both were transported to Norwalk Hospital. Charles Garcia has life-threatening injuries, while Michelle Garcia is expected to recover from her injuries, according to police.
The Garcias are married and were living together at the time of the shooting, according to their landlord. The couple, which has two high-school aged children, has been renting the residence on Gruman Avenue for the past two years.
According to police, Michelle Garcia was shot and ran to a neighbor's house where she called 911. Charles Garcia was found in the home after being shot.
The couple's two children were already at school when it happened. The children were told about what happened by the school resource officer.
The shooting is under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
"We're doing a search warrant to be able to go back into the home and do evidence collection at this point," said Wilton Police Chief Michael Lombardi.
Police are not saying what exactly occurred at the residence. Police told Eyewitness they are not looking for any suspects and are calling the shooting domestic.
The couple's landlord told Eyewitness News he's never heard of any problems with them.
According to records, there was an illegal firing of a gun at the Garcias' former residence.
A rifle was recovered from the home and is believed to be the weapon that was used in the shooting.
The neighborhood where Monday's shooting happened was caught off guard by something like this.
"I would say I am shocked," said one resident, who wished not to be identified. "This neighborhood is really quiet."
