Hartford hospitals team up to stop handgun violence

Hartford hospitals will be teaming up again this year in an effort to curb handgun violence in the capitol city.

Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Hartford Hospital and Saint Francis Hospital along with the Hartford Police Department, the mayor's office and the State's Attorney's Office will announce the details of the city's fourth annual Gun Buyback Program on Thursday.

During the buyback people will be able to bring in operable firearms in exchange for a gift card.

The guns collected will all be checked to make sure they are not connected to any crimes and then destroyed.

They will also accept non-working guns and ammunition, however, those will not be eligible for a gift card.

Last year, 120 guns were turned in.
