Suspicious fires in Montville being investigated

MONTVILLE, CT (WFSB) -

Two fires this week in Montville have been labeled suspicious and a reward is being offered for information.

The latest fire broke out Wednesday night inside a vacant home on Colchester Road extension. Two firefighters were sent to a local hospital.

The property was in the process of being sold this week.

Emergency crews said this is the third time this year that they have been called to the vacant building because of a fire.

In March, there were two fires there just days apart.

The latest fire comes after another fire at a nearby day care earlier this week, but officials are not saying if the fires are connected.

Crews responded to the Creative Care Daycare on Old Colchester Road in the Oakdale section of town on Monday evening.

There were no reported injuries and the day care was closed for the day.

The owner of the property is listed as Wendy Summers but an address for her on Patridge Hollow Road is a vacant house.

Court records indicate she faced foreclosure and out in front of the day care is a sign for a public auction foreclosure sale that's since been covered up.

Neighbors and clients told Eyewitness News that they had recently seen a for sale sign out front.

The state fire marshal's office is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible in either fire.
