A truck driver from North Carolina was killed in a crash at a rest area on the northbound side of interstate 95 in Fairfield.
Just before 2:30 a.m., crews were dispatched to the northbound service area on the highway on a report of an accident involving a tractor-trailer and car.
State police troopers reported multiple victims trapped in both vehicles with injuries.
According to state police, Mitchell Blankenship, 52, of Boomer, NC was asleep in his truck when a compact car entered the rest area, rolled over, and then catapulted into the side of his sleeper cab.
According to officials, Fairfield firefighters extricated three victims from the crash and transported them to an area hospital, where Blankenship was pronounced dead.
The crash remains under investigation by state police.
No other details were released.
