A Hartford man who has been arrested 49 times previously is expected to face more serious charges after a man who police said he assaulted in November died Tuesday afternoon.
Verall (Anthony) Hampton, of Hartford, was shot five times by Byron "Bleach" Williams, 44, on Albany Avenue on Nov. 11.
Police arrested Williams on Nov. 29 and charged him with first-degree assault, criminal attempt to commit murder and criminal possession of a firearm. He is being held on $750,000 bond and is expected to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Dec. 10.
The Hartford Police Department Major Crimes Division is working with the Connecticut State Attorney's Office "to amend the charges" against Williams.
Williams has a lengthy criminal history with 49 previous arrests and was on probation at the time of the arrest.
