PLAINVILLE, CT (WFSB) -

A police chase in Plainville ended with a car on its roof and three people in custody, but not before one of the suspects eluded police for hours Wednesday morning.

Residents along East Maple Street said they awoke to the sounds of a loud bang and a large police presence at about 4:30 a.m.

That loud bang, police said, was a green 1999 Honda, which was stolen from Middletown Wednesday morning, slamming into a utility pole, snapping it in half and the car rolling over and coming to a rest on its roof.

Police said that's when the three suspects inside crawled out of the smashed rear window and fled on foot.

"We live right there so we came to check, my house is right behind it and we heard them say, 'Get the dogs! He's running on foot,'" said Plainville resident Emanuela Falazza. "We were nervous."

According to Plainville police, one suspect, an adult male, was located at Hartford Hospital getting treated for his injuries from the crash.

A 15-year-old boy was later taken into custody walking on nearby Woodland Street.

But a third suspect kept police searching for hours.

Then right after a tow truck removed the car from the road and a few cruisers left the scene, our Channel 3 Eyewitness News cameras were rolling as an officer cuffed a man dressed all in black and laying down in a mulch bed behind a shrub in front of a home.

After getting checked out by medics on scene, he was taken away and arrested.

William Rivera, 36, and Fernando Viera, 22, were arrested and charged with first-degree larceny by possession, first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, second-degree criminal trover, second-degree conspiracy to commit criminal trover, interfering with an officer, risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace.

Viera, who was the driver, was also charged with evading responsibility, reckless driving, failure to grant right of way at private drive, traveling too fast for conditions, passing on right, failure to drive right and disobeying the signal of an officer.

Both men are being held on a $100,000 bond.

The 15-year-old boy was referred to juvenile court.

Nicholas Forcella said he watched the whole incident unfold from his front porch.

"I'm not sure where he was hiding, but I heard he ran through the backyards and made his way to General Electric," he said. "He must have hid there and then made his way back to the scene. That's when they caught him. Kind of scary that he was right next door."

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Plainville Police Department at 860-747-1616.

Plainville police believe the three were involved in a number of recent burglaries, mainly car break-ins in Plainville and Middletown.
