Parents, students in Seymour say bus company stood them up

SEYMOUR, CT (WFSB) -
Nearly 40 students from Seymour Middle School were asked to sing at Radio City Music Hall this weekend before the big Rockettes Christmas show.
However, the bus that was supposed to take them there didn't make it, and now they want answers.
A Peter Pan bus was supposed to haul 37 students to New York City Saturday, which was a trip two years in the planning.
"You know if you're in the eighth-grade chorus, you're going," said parent Terri Lynn Ferrara. "Since school started in September, they really started preparing for it."
Ferrara's daughter was one of those students preparing to sing right before the Rockettes performed in their Christmas Spectacular show.
"They were beyond excited for this," Ferrara said. "I can't even explain to you in words how excited they were."
However, she said students and chaperones waited and waited outside the Seymour Middle School for a Peter Pan bus to arrive at 5:15 a.m., but they say the driver was a no-show.
"We were told he was lost and had bad directions and that he would be there soon," Ferrara said.
But she said he never showed. The school did get a hold of Peter Pan's emergency dispatcher, and the employee told them a second bus driver would pick up the kids. But they showed up too late.
"For the next 2 1/2 hours we were just standing there feeling helpless in the cold, freezing rain, trying to figure out what is going on and couldn't get a hold of anybody," Ferrara said.
After hours of waiting, Ferrara said the school's vice principal made the decision to cancel the trip.
"It's 37 kids, they were crying, upset because this is a once and a lifetime opportunity that was now pulled out under them," Ferrara said.
And to make matters worse, Ferrara said parents drove down to New York City so they can see their kids perform.
"So they're at Radio City seeing the show and their kids aren't even there, so it's just insane," Ferrara said.
"We are working on a solution with the school. Peter Pan has been in business for 80 years. And it is currently under investigation," said Peter Pan Director of Charter Sales Carl Lajeunesse in a statement to Eyewitness News Monday. "It's an extremely rare situation."
Parents posted messages on Facebook and Twitter. They also called the bus company, but Ferrara said she just wants to make it better for 37 hardworking students who are beyond disappointed.
"I'm a frustrated parent who wants this righted for my daughter," she said. "There is no fault by our kids, it's by Peter Pan not showing up."
The "second" bus that the company sent didn't show up until 8:45 a.m. The problem is the kids were supposed to be in the New York City performing at 8:30 a.m.
Eyewitness News was told the school is trying to work with Radio City to see if the kids can get another invitation to perform.
