NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) -

In addition to assisting Newtown residents with counseling after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Newtown Youth & Family Services is accepting donations for the victims.

Newtown Youth & Family Services is open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for emergency counseling for families, community members or staff involved in the shooting.

No appointment is necessary to get help.

In addition, anyone wishing to donate to the families can do so via Caroline's Gift.

Caroline's Gift is a fund established in the late 1990s by a Newtown family in memory of their daughter, Caroline.

This fund, administered by NYFS, offers financial support to families who are dealing with a child's terminal or catastrophic illness.

Requests are processed by the Agency and forwarded to the family who make the determination regarding a financial award.

Recipients may remain anonymous.

The Newtown Parent Connection is also accepting donations, and any that are received will go directly to the families.
