HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

The year may be ending, but tax season is just beginning. Officials are warning people to be careful when filing their returns.

Attorney General George Jepsen is urging people to head to the department of revenue services website and read up on how to protect yourself from identity theft.

Jepsen told Eyewitness News that a person's data can be stolen from a computer or dug out of a trash can.

Department of Revenue Services Commissioner Kevin B. Sullivan joined Jepsen at a press conference on identity theft at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford Thursday afternoon.
