New Haven police arrested two people they believe are responsible for several burglaries in the city and continue to look for a third.
Police said they spotted Ronnie Doval, who is believed to be homeless, and another man running from the Empire Liquor Store Tuesday morning and they were carrying a safe.
Police followed Doval, 36, who jumped into a waiting car being driven by Bonnie Velez, 24.
When the car crashed into a guardrail, Doval jumped over the trunk and fell down an embankment, police said.
Velez and Doval were arrested.
Doval was charged with first-degree burglary, interfering with police, carrying a facsimile firearm, possession of narcotics, engaging in pursuit, operating a motor vehicle under suspension, misuse of a marker plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, possession of a stolen license plate, reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic signal and possession of marijuana.
Velez was charged with first-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit the same
Police believe they're connected to at least six other burglaries.
Several items were seized during the arrest including a cash drawer, an AirSoft pistol, a black face mask and a "Scream" movie mask, bottles of booze and drugs.
Officers continue to search for third person involved in the robbery.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 203-946-6316 or the New Haven Police "Tips Line" at 203-946-2875.
