Victim identified in Bridgeport fire

Posted: Updated:

The Bridgeport Fire Department has identified the man found dead in a vacant home on Madison Court on Christmas Eve.

Firefighters were called to 6 Madison Ct. around 3 p.m. on Dec. 24, which was their third fire call of the day. Upon arrival, heavy fire could be seen from the building.

After the fire was knocked down, firefighters searched the structure where they discovered a man's body on the second floor of the building.

The man was identified as Omar Chirinos, 32, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was able to identify him based on his dental records and tattoos.

The cause of death has been identified as smoke inhalation while investigators are still working to determine the manner of death.

The Bridgeport Fire Marshal's Office along with the Bridgeport Police Department and the Connecticut State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit are investigating the cause of the fire.

No arrests have been made in the investigation at this time.

Investigators believe five separate fires at four vacant homes on Dec. 24 could be connected because of several factors including proximity, the timing of each and that all the homes were vacant.

Investigators said they've collected a lot of evidence from all of the houses but they're asking for the public's help. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Bridgeport Police Department at 203-581-5201.
