NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -

A New Britain man was arrested in connection with a missing 14-year-old girl from Kentucky, who was found in Connecticut Thursday night.

David Hernandez, 51, was arrested at his home on Slater Road after police said he had a role in bringing Madison York from Lexington, KY, to New Britain.

"I just want to hug her," York's mother said in a phone call to Eyewitness News.

Hernandez was one of two adults in a van that York willingly got into after leaving school Wednesday and going to her house.

She said the neighbor told her a Hispanic male was driving a van with Connecticut plates, and there was a teenage boy with him. That neighbor told Eyewitness News's sister station, WKYT, that York walked up the road and hugged the boy.

Police said Hernandez and the other adult were related to boy, and all are from New Britain.

"They've approved extradition for just Mr. Hernandez," said New Britain Police Capt. Thomas Steck. "There could be additional arrests. The investigation is ongoing on both fronts, both here in Kentucky and in New Britain."

Police would not go into why York came to Connecticut, but said she was not harmed in any way. York is currently under the care of the Department of Children and Families and will eventually be reunited with her parents in Kentucky.

According to the Bell County Sheriff's Office, an anonymous tip led investigators to a Facebook page with pictures posted by people in the van. The information helped investigators locate the girl.

The missing girl was using an assumed name, investigators said.

Hernandez, who cooperated with police during his arrest, is expected to appear in New Britain Superior Court Monday.

New Britain residents reacted to the arrest.

"You got sick minded people out there," said Donald Sundwall. "They don't care."
