Bristol Public Schools steps up safety measures

BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

Bristol Public Schools has stepped up its safety measures following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Eyewitness News attended the Board of Education meeting on Wednesday night in Bristol, where members told parents that they are currently reviewing school safety plans and police are performing surveillance at all of the schools.

Schools are also conducting practice evacuations, lockdowns and drills. Procedures will also be tightened for locked and buzzed in entry.

A task force will be formed, made up of school leaders, secretaries, police and community members. The group will meet twice a month to discuss further safety measures.
