The kitchen area of a Chinese restaurant was damaged by fire early Sunday morning.
The fire was reported about 5 a.m. at the Joy Wok restaurant at 11920 Metcalf Ave. The first arriving units saw smoke coming up from the roof. Once inside, firefighters discovered flames in the kitchen area.
The blaze damaged about a fourth of the kitchen.
The restaurant was vacant at the time of the fire, which took about 20 minutes to get under control. The rest of the building saw smoke damage.
Efforts to reach the restaurant to see when it would reopen were unsuccessful Sunday afternoon.
