(WMC-TV) – It is a first at Bolivar Central High School. The students voted Kara Marcum as their homecoming queen, making her the first person with Down Syndrome to be honored with the title.
Marcum, 19, was up against three other homecoming candidates, and the announcement was made Friday night.
One week ago, Action News 5 met Marcum before she knew she was going to be crowned as the queen.
"She heard her name over the intercom and she said, 'Me, me, me!' She was really surprised," said teacher Angela Galloway.
Marcum was escorted by her date, Kaleb McKinnie.
"I'm really excited to walk out Kara. She owns this school. I'm honored to take her out because anybody would want to be in my shoes," he said before Kara found out she was homecoming queen.
