MANCHESTER, CT (WFSB) -

A 70-year-old man died after he was hit by a car while trying to cross Middle Turnpike West in Manchester Tuesday morning.

According to police, Ronald Gayson, of Manchester, was walking in the area just after 6 a.m. when he was hit by a car near the intersection of Adams Street.

Gayson was taken to Hartford Hospital  where he later died from his injuries.

Emergency officials said Middle Turnpike West was closed and traffic is being detoured to Center Street so the Manchester Police Traffic Unit along with Metro Traffic Services, the regional accident reconstruction team, could investigate the crash.

The crash remains under investigation and anyone with any information is asked to call police at 860-645-5560.
