MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

Medical officials in Middletown said the city is experiencing the worst flu season in 10 years.

Dr. Joseph Havlicek, Director of Health for the city of Middletown, said the flu began five weeks earlier than usual and is considered to be widespread in the city.

As a result, Havlicek said, emergency rooms have been crowded as well as doctors' offices.

Havlicek said the flu season has only just begun and will usually run until the first of May.
