NC WEATHER: Cooler temps return

Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. - After one day in the 80s, cooler than normal temperatures return to central North Carolina today and could hang around through the start of the weekend.

Today will be rather grey, with mostly cloudy skies and the chance for a few showers, mainly throughout the afternoon.  No surprise here but, with these conditions will come cooler temperatures, expect highs near 77 in the Triangle and close to 80 in Fayetteville.

Clouds could begin to break up overnight as we could also see patchy fog develop.  All in all, it will be cooler too with lows in the low 60s.

The cooler than normal temperatures will continue Thursday with highs near 79 and a lingering shower possible.  Friday looks to be dry but again, cooler than normal with highs near 78.

The weekend is looking pleasant with only a slim chance for a few showers Saturday and dry by Sunday.  Temperatures will be climbing as well with highs in the upper 70s Saturday and back into the low 80s Sunday.

Hurricane Edouard remains more than 1000 east of the North Carolina coast.  It became a Category 3 hurricane for a short time Tuesday in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean.  It will begin weakening and moving away from the United States today.
