NC WEATHER: Hot and sticky for rest of week, relief for the weekend

Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Yet another day below 90 in the Triangle yesterday, but hotter weather are in the forecast the rest of the work week.  Cooler air will move in over the weekend.

Today will be very humid with partly sunny skies.  There will only be a slight risk of a shower or storm.  Highs today will be near 90.  So far in August, the Triangle, has had only one day in the 90s.  Our normal high this time of year is 88.

Except for a slight risk of an early evening shower or storm, tonight will be mostly clear and muggy with overnight lows around 71.

Thursday will be the hottest day of the week.  With a light westerly flow and a warm front to our north, central North Carolina will reach the mid 90s in many areas.  Skies will be partly sunny and precipitation chances will be very low.  Although a stray shower or storm can't be ruled out, most areas will stay dry.

Friday will still be hot as all fronts stay to our north.  With a mixture of clouds and some sun, highs will reach into the lower 90s.  A couple showers and storms will be possible in the afternoon and evening.

By Saturday a cold front will approach central North Carolina, and with it a couple showers and storms will be possible.  Skies will have a mix of clouds and some sun, but highs will drop into the 80s.

On Sunday, the front should settle to our south and drier air will start to build in from the northeast.  Skies should be partly sunny with highs around 83.

Monday and Tuesday are looking nice, with mostly to partly sunny skies and highs in the lower to middle 80s.
