A viewer photo of a Windsor police sergeant changing a tire for a stranded motorist in the bitter cold has drawn more than 60,000 likes on the Eyewitness News Facebook page and no one is more surprised at the response than the officer involved.
Sgt. Todd Spencer told Eyewitness News that it was "cold" outside Wednesday morning when he changed the tire for a woman in need.
"I just wanted to get it done quickly," he joked.
Spencer said he saw the woman and pulled over. While he changed the tire, he kept his lights on to make sure everyone was safe and sent the woman on her way once it was done.
Once the photo was posted to the Eyewitness News Facebook page, noting it was about 15 degrees out at the time, it grabbed the attention of the station's viewers. Generally positive comments began pouring in from all over the country sending thoughts and showing appreciation. The post had more than 61,500 likes, 6,700 shares and 2,800 comments as of Thursday night.
"I've done it before as well as many other police officers have," said Spencer, who is a shift commander, but consistently on the road.
Spencer said he has enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame, but he is ready to move on.
"I'd like it to be over," he said.
