PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A 26-year-old man was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of trying to lure a 15-year-old girl for sex through a private online chat room.
Police said Ross William Griffin, of Phoenix, was in an internet chat room on July 30 and sent a private message to a girl he was told was younger than 15, according to a court document. During their conversation, Griffin is suspected of turning on his web cam and showing the girl his face.
Police said that despite knowing her age, Griffin still asked her for a sexual encounter, according to the document.
The suspect and the girl continued their online chat the next day and agreed to meet at a specific place and at a specific time. Griffin allegedly told the girl he would arrive in a small red car, according to the document.
Police said Griffin was interviewed Thursday and admitted he showed his face through the web cam and had solicited the minor for sex. He said he did not remember whether he drove to the agreed up location, but that it was possible, according to the document.
He was booked on one count of felony luring of a minor for sex.
