One person was taken to an area hospital after crashing into a pump at a gas station in West Hartford Friday afternoon.
According to witnesses, a 53-year-old driver was traveling on New Britain Avenue when the individual crashed into a light post in the Valero gas station parking lot before 2:30 p.m. Then, the driver continued traveling and crashed into another car at the gas station. And finally, the car crashed into a gas pump.
The driver had a medical problem and was taken to an area hospital for medical evaluation, police said.
One man told Eyewitness News that he feels like he cheated death after dodging the out-of-control car.
"It came straight at me and I just had to dive out the way," said Andre Fair, who dodged the car. "If I looked back two, three seconds later, I think I would have been dead."
The owner of the gas station said all the pumps were shut down until the construction was completed on the damaged pump.
"We're losing a lot of money," said Valero gas station store manager Romel Azil.
The owners told Eyewitness News that the damage can't be fixed from the outside, they're going to have to bring in a construction team to fix the damage.
