Fatal crash on Route 7 in Canaan under investigation

CANAAN, CT (WFSB) -

State police are investigating a fatal crash in Canaan.

Police said it happened Saturday morning near the intersection of Route 7 and Under Mountain Road.

They said a vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 7, when it failed to negotiate a curve and traveled over the median and into the northbound lane. The vehicle struck a fence and then tree with its left side, before coming to a stop.

Police said the driver Michael Baldwin, 41 was the only occupant of the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation, and no other information has been released at this time.
