A Nashville elementary school principal finds himself in big trouble after he was accused of driving under the influence for the third time.
Shannon Hill did not show up for work Monday at Jones Paideia Magnet School after an officer stopped him late Sunday when Hill ran a red light.
What happened next has the man who has worked for Metro Nashville Public Schools for about 15 years facing some serious charges.
"This is actually a good school," said Jaleesha Eules, whose nephew attends the school.
A sign at Jones Paideia Magnet reminds students the value of responsibility, but one of its top leaders now stands to learn that lesson dearly.
"He's supposed to be the leader. Everyone's following behind the leader. You represent the whole school," Eules said.
According to police, Hill ran a red light and almost hit another vehicle in Antioch.
He also reportedly smelled like alcohol, and when an officer tried to handcuff him, Hill shouted "No" and would not follow the officer's directions.
Now, Hill faces charges of DUI, resisting arrest and driving on a revoked license.
As bad as that could seem, this was actually the educator's third arrest for DUI - a troubling pattern for community members like Eules.
"The DUI last year was enough. And you're supposed to be representing the school, so for you to turn around and be drunk and your driving, it looks like, 'Well, okay, I have a job, so I can do whatever I want to do,'" Eules said. "And it doesn't work like that. It makes the children think, 'Well I can grow up and do what I want to do and there's no consequences.'"
Hill previously pleaded one of his DUI charges down to reckless driving. Another continues to work its way through the legal system.
He will stay on administrative leave with pay, for the time being, and is set to return to court next month.
