A slushy, wet mess covered Connecticut roads as snow and sleet continue to fall across the state Monday afternoon while creating problems for commuters.
A band of snow moved through Connecticut earlier Monday and it came down pretty hard for a while.
Snowfall ranged from 1/2 an inch to 2 1/2 inches across the state. West Hartford, Harwinton, Winchester and Litchfield received about 2 inches of snow.
The issue for Monday night is no longer snow. Instead, Connecticut residents will have to deal with some sleet, freezing rain, drizzle and areas of fog.
Fortunately, the precipitation will become light and spotty. There may be some lingering drizzle and freezing drizzle for the Tuesday morning commute, but nothing too bothersome.
As of 2:30 p.m., there were about a dozen flights that were canceled, or 5 percent of the daily flights at Bradley International Airport.
People who are flying on Monday are being urged by Bradley officials to call their airlines before heading to the airport.
Officials from CT Transit are reporting that buses are reporting "minor delays" because of the road conditions and weather.
Detours have been setup for B-Brookside and D-Grand Avenue routes in New Haven.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is reporting that all of its 632 trucks are clearing the state roads.
DOT officials said the highways are in "good shape," while the ramps are "so, so."
DOT Crews said they did not have to put as much pretreatment down because there was some left over from the weekend.
However, motorists are being advised to give themselves extra time because of possible traffic backups.
"Highways are alright, but the secondary roads are still kind of lousy. I've been slipping and sliding a little bit," said Nelson Peres of West Hartford. "Seems like they were taking their time getting to the plowing. That's the only problem I've come across."
Tuesday will be a little milder and there won't be much rainfall. A windy warm up is on the way for Wednesday morning and Wednesday evening.
Temperatures will reach the 50s and heavy rain could cause a few flooding concerns Wednesday evening.
