Police arrest four teenagers for calling in bomb threats at Putnam Middle School during January.
According to the Putnam Police Department, from Jan. 4 to 25, officers responded to four separate incidents of handwritten threats at the middle school.
Police said the threats mentioned bombs, while one of the threats included the reference of bringing a gun to school.
"Over the weekend, the police, who have been collaborating with us, and had been wonderful, let me know we had an arrest," said Putnam Superintendent of Schools Bill Hull.
Police said investigators solved three of the four cases and arrested four juveniles.
"The great thing about this is our kids are coming forward with information and our kids don't want this to happen because it interrupts the educational opportunities for everybody in the school," Hull said.
All four children are expected to appear in juvenile court sometime in the near future and are expected to face additional charges from the school.
While the threats are believed to be nothing more than childish pranks - and the work of copycats - the school district and the police are treating them as serious incidents.
"It's very unfortunate but what I am happy about is that Putnam takes it seriously and it's prepared," said Roxanne Sheldon, of Putnam
Anyone with information about the threats is asked to call police at 860-928-6565.
School safety will continue to be a hot topic in Putnam. Schools will be practicing a lockdown Wednesday, and Thursday night there will be a public forum on school security and safety inside the Middle School Auditorium.
