Firefighters in Ledyard were braving unruly conditions while trying to get a house fire under control.
Several crews responded to the fire on Country Club Road, and it was brought under control a short time later.
However, the homeowner suffered burns to his neck and face, and his two dogs died in the fire.
The Connecticut chapter of the American Red Cross said it was now helping the family of three, two adults and one child, with emergency food and clothing after the fire.
The family was able to make alternative housing arrangements, Red Cross officials said.
No other information was released.

I first saw the headline early Tuesday on Real Clear Politics, a political news site where I generally start my morning. It's not where I expect to see a story on breast cancer.
