Police called to accidental shooting at condo complex in Cromwell

The Cromwell Police Department is investigating an accidental shooting at a condominium complex in Cromwell on Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called to the Meadows condo complex on Woodbridge Lane just before 3:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they confronted Emzy Barker IV, 50. At the time, the man was looking for the victim, who was a man in his 20s.

The victim was shot in the chin and is being treated at Middlesex Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police determined that Barker was showing his acquaintance his firearm when it accidentally shot him.

Barker was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a firearm. He was released on a $5,000  bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court on Feb. 12.

A Colt .357 revolver, which was the weapon used in the shooting, was recovered by police.

Police are still processing evidence and trying to determine if the victim drove himself or had someone drive him to the hospital.

The incident remains under investigation by the Cromwell Police Department.

The shooting is the first in the town this year.

Neighbor Joe Crute was concerned to learn about the shooting.

"You'd never think something like that would happen around here," he said.
