A New Haven man was arrested Saturday after he is accused of crashing his SUV and then driving into a deli over unpaid parking tickets.
Officers were called to Orange Street around midnight after Michael J. Pervis Jr. and a tow trucker had gotten in an argument after Pervis had unpaid parking tickets and a boot was placed on his SUV.
According to police, Pervis ordered the tow trucker to remove the boot. During the incident, the tow trucker suffered a broken nose and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Then, Pervis got into his SUV drove into the tow truck, over a parking a meter and finally, crashed into the deli.
Officers went into his building, which was located in the area, and found Pervis upstairs asleep.
As soon as officers entered the apartment, Pervis attacked officers and took a few swings at them.
"You're going to have to earn this," Pervis told police.
Waleska Marrero, 28, tried to pull Pervis off officers and even grabbed a fire extinguisher during the struggle.
Police arrested Marrero and Pervis. Marrero was charged with interfering with police and Pervis was charged with two counts of assault of a police officer, first-degree criminal mischief, evading responsibility and disorderly conduct.
