It's early -- too early as they would say -- but that doesn't mean idle speculation isn't fun as Bovada has released its odds list for 2013 Heisman Trophy contenders, and according to them, junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is a serious contender next year.
The online sports betting book says Clowney has 12/1 odds to win college football's most coveted award next year.
So who does Clowney have to run over to get to the top? A veritable who's-who of other big-name SEC stars, such as Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, who also has 12/1 odds, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, who has 10/1 odds, and last year's Heisman winner, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, who is the odds on favorite to win the award again with 4/1 odds.
Clowney is the only defensive player on the full list of 23 college football athletes who have a chance to win the award.
You may remember Clowney actually received several votes in the 2012 Heisman race, which was good enough for a sixth place finish.
A trip to New York appears to be just one of the defensive end's big goals for his final season as a Gamecock, but the main goal is clear crystal: win the award outright.
"I believe a defensive player can win the Heisman next year," Clowney said in an interview with ESPN.
