Tens of thousands of customers still remain without power Sunday evening, days after historic snowfall totals were dropped by Blizzard Charlotte.
There are about 7,000 customers without power, but power has been restored to more than 60,000 people.
As of 6 p.m., there were 6,627 Connecticut Light and Power customers without power and 137 United Illuminating customers without power. The majority of the outages are in southeast Connecticut.
According to its Facebook page, CL&P officials believe power "restoration to be substantially complete" by midnight.
"Many customers are expected to be restored earlier," CL&P Facebook stated. "However, because of the complexity of some restoration jobs and continuing challenges with road access, some customers may not be restored until Monday."
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said at a news conference Sunday night that CL&P is "making gigantic progress."
The utility companies brought extra crews to Connecticut to help restore power lost.
CL&P had 400 of its regular crews Friday plus 200 extra from Ohio and Missouri and another 200 from North Carolina.
UI had 100 of its own workers available and 298 employees from Baltimore, South Carolina and Florida.
Malloy previously said he will be holding utility companies to that number.
"We passed legislation, we hold utilities responsible. They know we have the tool to hold them responsible. Anytime more than 10 percent of power is lost by either of the companies, that triggers an automatic review of performance," Malloy said at a press conference Friday afternoon. "If that performance is found to be lacking, they are subject to fines."
The governor and utility company officials are advising people to stay at least 10 feet away from downed wires and to not touch them. Downed wires also caused crews to be unable to plow certain streets and roads.
Once done in Connecticut CL&P crews will be heading to Massachusetts to help residents there.
Anyone in Connecticut, who is without power should contact 211 or visit its website for shelter information.
